2010 NHL Entry Draft - Day 2

By Kim Mueller

The second and final day of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft flew by!  It was an early morning as I hopped on the bus at 8:30 a.m. to head down the STAPLES Center.  Unlike yesterday, not many draft picks were actually in the building and the teams made their picks from the comforts of their draft tables.  Each table had a microphone and two people per table were chosen to make the picks for each organization.

Yesterday, there was probably about 15 minutes between each pick because it allowed the players to speak with the media and teams to make it up to the podium.  Today, since there weren’t many players at the draft, it was more like two minutes between each pick.  The names of the picks were rattled off one right after the other and the same went for the trades.

The Kings went from having nine draft picks before everything got underway yesterday, down to five total picks through trades to move up in the draft.  Management is extremely excited about their picks and is now looking forward to Development Camp which begins tomorrow at the Toyota Sports Center.  Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris, Assistant Coach Scott Pellerin and Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough all fly out to Los Angeles today and will be on hand to assist with camp this week.

Los Angeles picked four players in the draft today and three of the four were in attendance and available to speak with both team officials and the media.  The last pick, Maxim Kitsyn from Russia, ironically (or maybe not) has the same agent/translator as current Monarchs defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov.

With Development Camp beginning tomorrow and free agent signings beginning on Thursday, the Kings staff is going to be quite busy.
